FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE “Community Alert Campaign” – South Tacoma! Report Date: June 24, 2013 On Saturday, June 22, 2013, as prep for the HGRBS national tour of 2014, the "Community Alert Campaign" moved on to South Tacoma, Washington. The design of these community visits is two-fold: 1. To introduce HGRBS’ free online service availability to its homeowners and homerenters 2. To uncover any qualms or questions the private residents may have enlisting the support of residential contractors. This one was just under two hours duration because of delays in getting started. However, it is always great just being among our constituency sharing time and information. There was one resident, however, a self-employed building inspector by trade, who had issues with a certain group of residential contractors or imposters (uncertain which)….. According to this resident, in spite of him declining their services, they returned on two or three other occasions while he was on other jobs, to solicit work on the property through his wife. We offered a few tips and promised to keep the lines of communication open. In this light, we forwarded to him an attachment of our “ Contractor’s Request for Work” form specifically to offer to the lead of the same group of individuals the resident said were “badgering” he and his wife. The form asks for all vital information from any contractors in order to verify who they are and their standings. In addition, it lists specific government and non-government agencies which will be queried for such verification. We suggested that the resident hand a copy of the “Contractor’s Request for Work” to the lead of this small contractor (or other) group to fill out. It’s a Catch 22 for those unscrupulous individuals. Other action is pending since this is now an ongoing concern which must be resolved. This is the other reason for the “Community Alert Campaigns:” to detect troubles residents may have on-the-spot and to work with them towards sensible resolutions. Later this week: Magnolia!
