The public is invited to walk along with the players. The event is free. Irish road bowling is one of the oldest sports in the world, dating back to the 1600s. Shots can roll 200, even 300 yards on a narrow country road. National Championship in New York Winners in three grades will advance to the national championship, the North American Region Finals, in East Durham, New York, August 2, 3 & 4, 2013. Winners in East Durham, NY advance to the All Ireland Finals in Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh, September 14, 15. Mark represented West Virginia at national finals in Boston, New York and West Virginia. Mark carries plenty of speed, and hit a 300 + yard shot at Pipestem April 27, putting him far into the lead for low score. Jerod Putnam was WV Novice 2 Champion in 2006. From Ireland, WV, and one of the founders of the sport, Jerod has competed in national finals in Boston, New York and West Virginia. Travis Craig vs. Ken McClintic - Travis Craig is the highest rated road bowler in West Virginia, with five WV State Championships, two national titles in 2009 and 2010, and represented North America in the All Ireland Finals in Aughagower, Co Mayo in 2009, and Drogheda, Co Louth in 2010, and the World Championship Bowl-Playing in Dinkelland, Holland in 2010. His powerful performance in Aughagower put West Virginia on the map in the international community of outdoor bowlers. Ken McClintic was WV Novice 2 Champion in 2009 and 2010, and competed in national finals in New York and twice in West Virginia. Ken is superintendent of Holly River State Park, and the Holly River Fall Challenge in October is one of the state’s best team tournaments. Travis McClintic vs. Rich Meece - Travis McClintic is rated at the top level of road bowlers in West Virginia. A former WVU football player, Travis has great speed and maintains accuracy. The 2011 WV Novice 2 state champion, Travis has competed at national finals in Boston, twice in West Virginia, and represented North America at the World Championship Bowl-Playing in Holland. Rich Meece represented West Virginia in the national finals in 2009, and his game gets better and better. Rich and his wife Samantha travel all over West Virginia supporting this exciting, family friendly sport. Nick Mick vs. Stephen Wallington Nick Mick is new to the sport yet has rolled out some amazing scores, including tying the course record of 15 on Wildcat Road in 2011, and on May 19, 15 shots on difficult Turkey Run. Nick competed in the national finals in Boston in 2010. Stephen Wallington is the 2012 WV Novice 2 state champion, then competed for West Virginia in the national finals at Coopers Rock State Forest. Stephen carries speed and accuracy, and will be defending his state title in Ireland, WV. Novice III and Novice IV Wayne Marrs competed in Novice 3 in the national finals in Boston in 2011. He bowled extremely well in his first national competition, leading a veteran New York player through an exciting match, until edged out by five feet on the final throw. Women Pipestem 1 Aleacha Wallington vs. Strawberry 4 Bye Pipestem 2 Elise McClintic vs. Strawberry 3 Bye Strawberry 1 Becky Felton vs. Pipestem 4 Marsha Jordan Strawberry 2 Judy Mize vs. Pipestem 3 Samantha Mann Aleacha Wallington and Elise McClintic are the WV State Champion and Runner Up, respectively, in both 2011 and 2012. Aleacha also won the 2012 North American Region Ladies Longshot competition (by twelve inches past WV’s Becky Felton). Samantha Mann was WV State Champion in 2008 and 2010, and competes all across the state. Marsha Jordan won two North American Region Ladies Longshot competitions, in Boston in 2010, and in New York in 2011. Becky Felton is new to the sport, rolled a terrific score on Turkey Run May19, and was Ladies Longshot Runner Up at the 2012 North American Region Finals. Judy Mize is a straight shooter and one of the best lady players in West Virginia. Judy has made countless trips all over West Virginia in support of The Old Game, and always talks it up in the nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C.
