FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: July 17, 2014 Contact: Debbie Zeiger, State VP Phone: 205-626-9458 Email: [email protected] Website: alfra.org On Thursday, July 17th at 6:00 pm, The Alabama Family Rights Association (ALFRA) will host a monthly member and guest meeting at the Hoover Public Library in the Lower Level Conference Room A and B, 200 Municipal Dr., Hoover Alabama 35216. Guest speaker: Principal Gordo Elementary, Mr. Kenneth Holder (former, Principal of Gordo High School) The topics this month are: • Dealing with Post-Custody Child Rearing Issues during the school year and limiting negative impact on the child and school administration. How to deal with these challenges is very important to both you and your children’s lives. • Kenneth Paschal, ALFRA Director of Governmental Affairs will discuss Family Law Reform to reduce placing children at risk by safeguarding the parent-child relationship. The need for children to have both parents is most evident in academics and extra-curricular activities. Since enacted in 1852, Alabama custody law primarily awards physical custody of children to only one fit parent in contested custody cases. Alabama is currently 43rd in U.S. for high school graduation, with 71% of dropouts consisting of children with restrictive contact with one of their biological parents. Sources: 2014 National Center for Education Statistics; Ala. DHR and US Department of Health and Human Services. This is an opportunity to learn how to be active in your child’s academics and how to partner with the school administration to maximize opportunity for a successful educational experience. We would like to invite the public; especially those impacted, school counselors, administration, and lawmakers to attend. Come to the meeting to learn what you can do to take action for change. Our children deserve to thrive and they will do so best with both of their fit parents in their lives.
