FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY Contact Information: Pitcher Park Memorial Skate Park Mary Pitcher mpitc2000@aol pitcherpark Location: Carnegie Park, Forsythe Road, Carnegie, PA 15106 Date: July 7, 2013 Sunday at 7:00PM July, 7, 2013 will be a proud day for the Pitcher Park Memorial Skatepark Foundation and the Borough of Carnegie. The long awaited skatepark ground breaking will take place at 7pm in Carnegie Park on Forsythe Road. This event will mark almost 5 years to the day when brothers Vincent & Stephen Pitcher tragically lost their lives on July 8, 2008 in a drowning accident in Kinzua Reservoir. Carnegie was selected for the skatepark after considering sites offered in Mt. Lebanon’s Main Park and Scott Township Park. While attending a dinner for the Tony Hawk Foundation in 2010, Professional-Skateboarder Mike Vallely initiated a discussion regarding the Pitcher Park project with former Bridgeville native, Ken Schultz. Through the Tony Hawk Foundation (THF), the Ken & Carol Schultz Foundation reached out to the skatepark project and donated 85 percent of the $600,000. The Pitcher Park Foundation and Carnegie Borough have raised the remaining 15 percent through fundraisers and in-kind donations of materials. Working together with the Tony Hawk Foundation, the Ken & Carol Schultz Foundation and the Borough of Carnegie on this project has been a refreshingly delightful and rewarding experience for the Pitcher Park Foundation. Grindline Skateparks, of Seattle, WA, the designer/ builders, expect to complete the skatepark within 4-5 months after construction commences. The design features a large, unique full pipe, a bowl 4-6 ft deep, a bowl 8-10 ft deep and a street course with various obstacles all nestled in the beautiful setting of Carnegie Park. Fundraising continues to build a spectator area. We are offering the opportunity for Pittsburgh businesses and residents to show support for the children by purchasing a memorial brick for their loved ones or family that will be seen at the park for the next 50 years. A brick has been purchased from as far away as Malaysia! The Carnegie Trail of Terror will be back by popular demand for the second year in Carnegie Park this October as well. Please see our website: pitcherpark/ for further information. Thank you! Note: The attached design images are not the final design but very close. The final design tweeks the street section according to the wants of the users.and adds 1,000 sq ft
