FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Incumbents re-file for seats in upcoming school board election COPPERAS COVE, TX. (July 25, 2014) – Two seats on the Copperas Cove School Board are up for grabs this fall and the two incumbents aim to keep them. Place 6 currently held by Jim Copeland and Place 7 currently held by Karen Harrison are up for election on November 4 and both board members have filed to retain their seats. Harrison, a native of Cove, has three children in CCISD schools. She said it has been an honor and a privilege to serve on the board for the last three years. “I have learned a lot about school board finance and I want to continue with the vision the board has set forth. We just implemented our new strategic plan and I want to see that through to its end-point.” Harrison said. “Both as a professional and being a parent help me bring fresh and different perspectives to discussions we have and I want to see the district continue to excel and improve.” Copeland is no stranger to elected and appointed positions in Copperas Cove. “I served on the city council and the school board. I do this because I love my community. So, I serve it,” Copeland said. “We have the best school board in Texas. We work well together. Our team of eight is the finest along with the finest superintendent. Working together, that makes Cove the finest school district.” All school board positions are three-year terms and represent the entire school district. All Copperas Cove ISD residents registered to vote may run for any place in the Board of Trustee Election. The Texas Association of School Boards offers a free online training course designed by experienced school board members, especially for people considering running for the school Pg. 2 board. The course explains what to expect when serving as a school board member and may be found at https://tasb.org/Services/Leadership-Team-Services/Resources/For-Board-Candidates/Candidate-Training-Video.aspx. Filing packets can be picked up at 703 West Avenue D during the hours of 7:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Monday-Friday. The deadline for filing for a place on the November 4 ballot is Monday, August 18.
