FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lone Star Rally Celebrates 13th Year on Galveston Island Motorcycle Rally Roars on to Island November 6th Through 9th GALVESTON, TX (October 31, 2013) – Celebrating its 13th year on Galveston Island, the Lone Star Rally is the largest four day motorcycle rally in North America. The Rally boasts Texas-sized contests, concerts, attractions, exhibits, vendors and routes through Galveston’s downtown Strand and Seawall Boulevard. It offers free admission to the public and will open Thursday, November 6 and run through Sunday, November 9. Real Time Rally Updates Via Smartphone App The City recommends residents and visitors download the Lone Star Rally app for real time updates to events, weather, vendors and more. Search “Lone Star Rally” in your app store to find other bikes, view concert and event information, submit pictures and interact with the Rally social media from your smartphone. Street Closures: Lone Star Rally festivities will be concentrated in Galveston’s historic downtown and Seawall Boulevard. The event’s entertainment districts will trigger extensive street closures. Seawall Boulevard will be subject to traffic closures from 19th Street to 25th Street, starting Wednesday, November 5 at 9 AM. Eastbound traffic will remain open during the Rally dates to both vehicles and motorcycles. Westbound traffic will be routed down 19th Street to Avenue O, westbound to 25th Street and south to Seawall Boulevard. The main drag for motorcycles only will stretch from 18th to 25th Street and The Strand. No vehicular traffic will be allowed. Multiple parking locations surrounding The Strand District will be available. Unified Command Center: Operated by the Galveston Police Department, the Unified Command Center will be located downtown between Market and Mechanic Street on 22nd Street to address public safety throughout the Lone Star Rally entertainment district. Illegal and unsafe conduct will not be tolerated. RV Parking and Overnight Camping: Overnight camping is not permitted at any public beach on Galveston Island with the exception of authorized locations. The term camping, as defined by the Citys code and ordinances, includes any tent, lean-to, sleeping bag, blanket, vehicle, trailer, camper, or other means of shelter. Overnight parking along Seawall is also prohibited. Seawall Paid Parking: Visitors to the Seawall can use a mobile app, the internet, or a mobile phone to pay for parking. Cash payments are accepted at Island Bicycle (1808 Seawall Boulevard) and Ohana Surf and Skate (2814 Avenue R ½). Parking transactions are transmitted real-time to reflect payment status to parking ambassadors and patrol cars. Seawall Paid Parking: Fee: $1 / hour, not to exceed $8 / day or $25 / year annual pass Operation: 10:00AM – 6:00 PM, 7 days a week, daily Pay Options: paybyphone/Galveston or 1-866-234-7275 Cash Accepted at: Island Bicycle (1808 Seawall Boulevard) and Ohana Surf and Skate (2814 Avenue R ½) Paid parking areas include the north and south sides of Seawall Boulevard from 6th to 69th Street and 81st to 103rd Street. The area between 69th and 81st Street is free of charge. Please note that parking is paid per license plate, not per parking space. Annual passes are $25 per year and can be purchased online, via PayByPhone/Galveston, or by calling 1-866-234-7275. All parking payments are associated to a license plate and are non-transferable, eliminating the need to display a receipt on your vehicle’s dash, or to display a sticker or hangtag.
