FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 2, 2014 SHERIFF COTTLE IMPLEMENTS WEB ACCESS VISITATION The final installation of a new state of the art HomeWAV (Home Web Access Visitation) web access visitation for the Lincoln County Jail concluded this week. The new system saves the Sheriff’s Office countless hours of staff monitoring regularly scheduled visits. HomeWAV does not require operator assistance, works similar to Skype and operates as simple as making a phone call. Importantly, it is a free service for the Sheriff’s Office. Taxpayers no longer have to fund visitations and expensive video visitation systems. The HomeWAV is a fee-based system inmates pay for and from day-one generates a revenue stream for the detention facility. The HomeWAV system reduces detention facility operating costs by eliminating the payroll burden of requiring “operators” to connect visitors with inmates and to coordinate and schedule visits. The placement of HomeWAV stations in secure areas eliminates the need to move inmates for visitation and greatly reduces the risk for contraband transfer. In addition, phone conversations are 100% recorded and monitored. “Many of the inmates in our facility have county connections to family and friends,” said Sheriff John Cottle. “Inmates are normally held on short sentences and return to their home within the county. Their children go to our schools and attend our churches. This program allows inmates to stay connected to their families.” Studies have shown visiting family members or friends is an important way to maintain connections during incarceration and enhance the inmate’s success both while incarcerated and after release. ###
