This isnt about a Golden Retriever, but it is an incredible story, and thankfully, one with a happy ending. In 2010, ex Marine Zak Anderegg was exploring slot canyons in Arizona. At the bottom of a 350 foot deep, narrow canyon, he found an abandon puppy... injured, obviously stranded there on purpose, and left to die. Anderegg fed the puppy, gave him some water, and left a towel for a blanket. The next day, he returned to the stop with a crate, large enough to hold the pup, and he rescued the dog he now called Riley. In doing so, he says, he also recused himself.
