FOR RELEAS: JUNE 15, 2014 COLE, ROBERTS, PAVLICK, WICKHAM AND DUDLEY CLAIM YATES COUNTY VICTORIES IN SUNDAY NIGHT SPECIAL EVENT DUNDEE, NY…Yates County Speedway played host to a special Sunday night show. Matt Cole, Matt Roberts, Casey Pavlick, Tom Wickham and Trevor Dudley were all victorious. In the Empire State Series event for the IMCA Modifieds it was Gary Smith and Keith Lamphere leading the pack to the green flag with Smith grabbing the early lead. Lamphere took over for one lap on lap four before relinquishing the lead to Chris Fleming. Fleming and Lamphere battled side by side for several laps with Lamphere holding a slight advantage. On a lap 14 restart, the rear locked up on Fleming’s car and sidelined him for the balance. Matt Cole then entered the picture. Cole, in his first ever appearance at the track, hounded Lamphere lap after lap as the two waged a torrid battle for the lead. Cole made his move stick on lap 22 of the 25 lap feature and raced into the lead. From there the third generation driver took his 24x mount to the checkers. Lamphere was second ahead of Rich Karlnoski, Bump Scutt and Mike Griffin. Sixth through tenth went to Bruce Tinsley, Gary Smith, Jared Spalding, Tyler Stoddard and Mike Stoddard. The Race of Champions Street Stock feature found Gene Sharpsteen out front at the outset. Meanwhile sixth starting Matt Roberts worked his way to the front and began to apply the pressure on Sharpsteen. Roberts took the lead on lap ten and maintained a comfortable lead over the field. Behind Roberts, Sharpsteen now found himself in a battle for second with Jake Karlnoski. Karlnoski took over second with eight laps to go and tried to track down Roberts. Sharpsteen stayed with both of them and regained second on lap 24. The caution flew with one lap to go setting up a dash for the checkers. Roberts proved to be up to the challenge and raced to the victory over Sharpsteen, Jonathan Carpenter, Karlnoski and Chuck Winslow. Positions six through ten went to Jared Hill, Gene Balmer, Daryl Krebs, Nathan Daggett and Alan Crooker. The 602 Crate Sportsman were in competition in a regular point show. Just as the pack was coming to take the green, current point leader Brady Fultz slowed and dropped into the pits. His night ended before it started. Ross Vleck raced into the early lead and appeared to be on his way to the victory. Chris Fisher and Loren Lincoln chased Vleck for the first ten laps before Casey Pavlick entered the picture. Pavlick, coming off the win last week, pulled right up to Fisher for second as they chased Vleck. Lapped traffic would come into play in this one as Pavlick moved into second on lap 24. As the top three entered heavy lapped traffic Vleck still maintained his lead. Going into turn three on the final lap Vleck went low and Pavlick went high as they split the lapped cars. Vleck got bottled up and Pavlick made the move stick on the high side to surge ahead of Vleck at the stripe in a thrilling finish. Fisher was a very close third ahead of Lincoln and two time winner Fran Hilton. Josh Keesey, Mike Jackson, Dale Welty, Eric Bell and Phil Yaw rounded out the top ten. The NY6A Micro Sprints made their first of two appearances of the season and put on a great show. Ben Kysor jumped out to the early lead with Tyler Walker hot on his heels. Walker took the lead on lap nine only to lose it back to Kysor on the next circuit. Tom Wickham was charging through the field from his 11th starting spot and would join in the hunt for the lead by lap 16. Wickham raced into second two laps later and was all over Kysor for the lead. Wickham made his move on lap 22 to take the lead and held on to claim the victory. John Smith made a late race charge to take second over Kysor, Walker and Cody Shurgot. Rounding out the top ten were Megan Allen, Paulie Colagjovan, Danny Knoll, Kyle Coffey and Jacob Lewczyk. The Four Cylinders once again put on a tremendous show with it coming down to a three car battle for the win. Jayson Smart held the early lead but soon had to deal with Trevor Dudley and Jason Gleason. The three drivers stayed right together with Dudley taking a slight advantage on lap six. They remained tight together until the end. As they came to the checkers it was anybody’s race to win. Dudley stayed out front to garner the win over Smart and Gleason. Scott Bradley rallied to a fourth place finish ahead of Del Cummings. Sixth through tenth went to Brandon Mathews, Craig Mahrt, Rich Post, Chris Perck and Zach Teed. RACE NOTES…For Cole it was his first time racing at Yates County and he made it worth the trip…Both Cole and Roberts, the Street Stock winner, are Five Mile Point and I-88 regulars…Pavlick joined Hilton as two time winners this year…There were over 100 cars in the pit area for the special Sunday show…Darryl Ruggles had his 305 sprint car on hand to run some hot laps.
