FOR RENT Start date: August 26, 2014 (negotiable) End date: June 30, 2015 (possibility of renewal) Location: 12 ½ Grant Street (5 minute walk to Harvard Yard and Harvard Square) Size: One bedroom in 2-bedroom, 1-bath (total apartment is 815 sf) Price: $1175, including all utilities and internet (plus small cable package and subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu already linked to TV) Additional information: I am a G2 in the history department, and I am looking for a roommate to share my 2-bed, 1-bath Harvard apartment (only Harvard affiliates are eligible). The location of the apartment is amazing, just a short walk to Harvard Square and Harvard Yard. There are restaurants, the main Harvard gym, Zip cars, and more, all within a few blocks. You can learn more about the building here: huhousing.harvard.edu/our-properties/12-125-grant-street?pricing_floor_plans. The apartment takes up the full second floor of a three-unit building. The basement is semi-finished (with a significant amount of storage space) and has a shared washer/dryer that is free. My fiancé and I selected this apartment before realizing he would need to spend the year in D.C. for a fellowship. This makes the apartment unusual in a few ways. First, it is very nicely and completely furnished already (except for the extra bedroom, which we planned to use as a study), including kitchen table and chairs, leather couch, dishes, high quality pots/pans, assorted kitchen appliances (no microwave yet, though), cleaning supplies, large flatscreen TV, etc. There is no need to bring anything other than bedroom furniture (and frankly, there is basically no space to add anything other than in the second bedroom; you are welcome to hang art on the walls, though). Second, I will be away frequently on weekends and holidays to stay with my fiancé. That means you will often have the place to yourself. (The flipside is that there will be occasional weekends when my fiancé will be staying with me, but I expect that to be a small minority. Happy to discuss specifics.) My ideal roommate is female, clean, quiet, friendly, low-drama, and not a bathroom hog (main downside to this apartment is that there is just one tiny bathroom). I usually study at home, so I prefer a roommate who is generally quiet, does not play loud music/TV during normal working hours, and only occasionally invites guests over on weekdays. I also prefer a roommate who is not regularly up late at night (past midnight or so) because I am a light sleeper. Keeping apartment doors locked and taking other security precautions is a must. It would be nice to have a roommate who is interested in hosting small dinner parties together, watching TV, going to restaurants or events, etc., but the main priority is a low-stress living situation. Happy to discuss any of this further if this sounds like a good fit for you.
