FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE NATIONAL EBOLA RESPONSE - TopicsExpress

FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE NATIONAL EBOLA RESPONSE COUNCIL(NERC). UPDATE FROM THE KROO BAY COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTRE. I went to the Kroobay Community Medical center today,to confirm the number of homes under quarantined and the challenges they faced. An interview with one of the health workers there, confirmed that seven homes are supposed to be quarantined but to their dismay only five are presently under quarantined . According to Mohamed Sillah, one of the youth volunteers and children mobilisers, told me that even the five homes under quarantined, there wasnt enough security to maned the movement of people. There were free movement of people in and out of the quarantined homes . He said the free movement of people was as a recipe for the spread of EBOLA to KROO BAY COMMUNITY. I asked one of the medical workers why the other two suspected homes were not quarantined, the medical work said they were asked to fill FORMS of the infected homes and send to the medical authorities in charge, but no action is yet to be taken. I also asked wether there were new confirm EBOLA cases from the community, the Medical Worker said since last week they have reported three new confirm EBOLA cases one of which is a pregnant woman from one of the quarantined homes. For that reason, they have extended the time limit for that infected home beyond 21 days. Mohamed concluded by saying they are very worry about the rapid spread of the virus in that vulnerable slum community, and calling on the government to tighten up security in quarantined homes which he believed will mitigate the movement of people and hence Stop the EBOLA from spreading. My question is : should we ignore the poor people of KROO BAY COMMUNITY to fight Ebola for themselves? *Abdulai Jalloh,United Sierra Leone, reporting.
