~~~ FOR YOUR INFORMATION ~~~ Police say security measures are in place for next weeks general elections The SA Police Service says all security measures are in place for next weeks general elections. Spokesperson, Lieutenant-General, Solomon Makgale, says theyre confident that communities can go out in numbers to cast their votes and that they can do so in a safe and peaceful environment. He also issued a stern warning to those who have intentions of attempting to destabilise the election process in any way, saying they will most certainly face arrest and prosecution. Makgale says over 50 people have already been arrested for election-related offences. He says police will be deployed to every voting station in the country. Meanwhile, the IEC, says voting by South Africans overseas ended on Thursday. Spokesperson, Kate Bapela, says the last voting station in Los Angeles closed at 6am South African time. She says the votes cast at 116 SA missions are now being couriered in secure bags back to Election House in Centurion, where they will be reconciled against the list of voters who successfully notified the Chief Electoral Officer of their intention to vote outside the Republic. Bapela says the next round of special votes will take place on Monday and Tuesday when IEC officials will visit nearly 300 000 voters in their homes, retirement centres, hospitals, and health care facilities. via algoa FM CAT
