FORBES MAGAZINE: Tunisia Deserves Increased Western Engagement And Assistance In a piece for Forbes, the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Daniel Runde notes that, while Tunisia does not fit the typical character of a Western aid recipient due to its relatively high economic indicators and progress in rights, Tunisia is “going to need Western assistance with fighting corruption, getting the mechanics of democracy right, and handling a massive Libyan refugee crisis on its border.” He argues that while Tunisia needs traditional foreign aid to achieve success, the U.S. will have to “think differently” given the country’s unique status. Runde also favors greater dialogue about U.S. engagement with Tunisia, a greater number of visits to the country, and trade delegations and increased investment.
