FORGIVENESS Forgiveness is and has always been the best defence - TopicsExpress

FORGIVENESS Forgiveness is and has always been the best defence against a bruised/broken heart. Now, I know yould be inclined to disagree with me, but the fact remains that as long as you hold on to past hurts, you tie yourself to the past. Some times letting go(forgiving) can be as much for your own good as it is for the good of the person who hurt you. Let me give you a vivid mental picture of what unforgiveness looks like. It could be likened to being caught in the midst of a terrifying storm and refusing to let go even when rescue has come because you want to get back at the storm. What you will actually achieve is continuous battering by the storm and unimaginable pain. Forgiving frees you from the reach of hurt. It puts you above past mistakes, thereby leaving you free to make new and better choices. To forgive and forget sounds like an impossible religious injunction but it in reality is exactly what you need to overcome your painful past. By asking you to forget I do not expect you to have a sudden bout of amnesia and forget your past ever existed. Im rather imploring you to get to a mental stage of acceptance where you do not dwell on your hurtful past anymore or let it dictate your present and future. Holding on to grudges often translates to you seeking to punish the person who hurt you. But what you actually do achieve is to punish and push away innocent people for the sins of the person who hurt you. By channeling all your efforts into getting revenge for a past hurt, you do not leave enough energy to effectively dwell in and enjoy the present. You end up spending your whole life or a better part of it dwelling in the past while ignoring the present. Who has hurt you in the past? No matter how much he/she does not deserve to be forgiven, you DO deserve to forgive. To let go of the heavy load. Do you think you can EVER forgive that past hurt? Drop your opinion. #Uno
