FORMER W.P. DENTIST SENTENCED IN 1 CASE; NO ACTION IN 4 OTHERS BY RON WOOLMAN Quill Staff Writer In 2012 dentist David Steputis, then practicing in West Plains, and now living in Colorado, was charged in Howell County with assault in two separate incidents and with domestic assault in three other incidents involving his girlfriend. Only one of the cases proceeded through the court system and on Sept. 5 he pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanor peace disturbance in one of the assaults. Sentencing was by 44th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Craig Carter of Mansfield in Wright County Circuit Court in Hartville on a change of venue from Howell County. Steputis was given a 180-day suspended execution of sentence and was placed on two years of unsupervised probation. Howell County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Hutchings said the three domestic assault cases were dismissed recently because Steputis’ girlfriend at the time, Amber Shaw of West Plains, was subpoenaed to testify at the trial set for Sept. 15 in Wright County but could not be found.
