FORT MYERS FLORIDA -- PLEASE READ DIXIES STORY AND SHARE TO FIND SOMEONE TO SAVE HER! Dixie the Rotty has 48 HOURS LEFT to find a new home...OR WILL BE PTS. She is about 5 years old and I got her as a foster about a year ago. Her life until I rescued her was her being chained to a doghouse putting out litter after litter of puppies. She was fed table scraps when the owners had them available. Due to this ( I believe) she is food aggressive with anything that is not her dog food and takes more than a bite or two to finish. Such as dog bones etc. HOWEVER.... She is the perfect dog in every sense of the word. She knows the following commands: sit, wait, stay, here, leave it, get it, bed, kennel, off, down, shake, other paw, and we are working on roll over. She also has NEVER met a dog she didnt immediately want to play with. She is the first to run away to hide if she feels a dog fight may break out. She loves the pool. She loves kids. She loves cats. In the year or so I have had her there have been 3 incidents that she has shown her aggression over her food source. First one: Husband wanted to be nice and gave her a marrow bone from the butcher.... She took it in her crate where she stayed for 2 1/2 days as she would attack the crate if we went into the room... She came out when she could no longer wait to go pee. Second incident: Husband trying to be nice again, gave her a rawhide type of bone. She hid under a large dining room display cabinet and charged at us if we went into the room. I lured her out to me with other people food and held her while my husband got and trashed the bone. Third incident: A week or so ago, she found a bag of kitten food and proceeded to eat it, if I tried to tell her no or go near her she charged at me. When she was done she went in her crate and was fine. I have been trying to place her as I have a 13 yr old son that that I do not need getting bit as well as I am 9 months pregnant and due ANY DAY. If she is not removed from my home within 48 hours I will have no choice but to have her euthanized. No I do not want this for her but I have no other choice if no one can take her. I know this can be fixed as I have done it before. I am willing to pay for transport if needed as she is in Florida. —BRANDY MONDRY
