FORWARDED: I am from a british/pakistani back-ground. I was once part of the Sufi/Barelwi Naqshbandi Aslami tareeqah. And now, alhamdulillah i have left it. I was known to be from their jamaah, to the extent where i would lead salah and give the azan in their masjid. They even gave me the keys to it!! It all happend when i questioned the Peer. I asked him: Who are the wahabis? I really wanted to know as everyone warns against them. He said: They are people who dont make dua, dont believe in the prophet (peace be upon him) and they dont pray properly. So, i went to research on them. I found their leader to be: Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahab. He wrote a book called: Kitab at-Tawheed, so i looked for it in english and found it. And i began to read it. It was full of...Quran, Sunnah and....thats it. Evidence upon evidence for what he believed in. I found nothing wrong in it! So i went back to the Peer. I said to him: Peer sab, i read this book and found it to be filled with Quran and Sunnah. Whats wrong with it? Peer sab got angry and said: You dont understand the Quran, you are too young. (I was shocked!) Its here in clear arabic, and heres the english, what cant i understand? He replied: The Quran has hidden meanings which the normal people dont know of. I found this to be very strange. A book sent by Allaah as a guidance for all mankind and jinn, yet there are hidden meanings which only a few people know?!! Then after i began to question; Wheres the evidence for mawlid? Wheres the evidence for khatams (death anniversary of a person)? Why do you not ask Allaah directly? Why do you clearly oppose these hadith? The practices you do were never done by the prophet (peace be upon him)!! He gave me answers to my questions, but they did not suffice. Everytime he came with a reply, his arguments had cracks within them. He was inconsistent in his answers, he didnt know of authentic hadith or Quranic verses which clearly refuted his beliefs. After a couple of months debating with him and the other molvis (imams) at the masjid, i decided to leave them. They had no knowledge of the religion whatsoever. They could not even recite the Quran correctly with proper pronounciation, that is still sadly seen in their mosques today. Moral of the story: Question your practices/beliefs! See if they are in conformity with the Sunnah! That is what you call true love of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
