FOUND this hilarious: A friend of mine bought a rowhouse in South Camden for $33,000. He prefers to live in inner-city, burned-out areas as he has no kids and does not fear crime at all. One day he decided to just stop paying his mortgage. The bank never foreclosed nor moved him out. The reason: the bank would own the property and have to maintain it. It wasnt worth it. He lives with no mortgage and no car payment, as he works in Philly and bikes in (or takes train on cold days). No homeowners insurance (doesnt care if the house burns down) and no car insurance, and the state helps him with taxes as it is an enterprise zone, or something like that. Since he works in Philly, he makes a very nice salary. His company pays his cell phone bill, and he has no need for a landline phone. So other than an electric and gas bill, he basically lives for free in one of the worst areas of NJ. And remarkably, has never been the victim of a crime.
