FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS The Foundation for Seacoast Health recently awarded six scholarships to Seacoast area students. In keeping with the mission of the organization to invest its resources to improve the health and well being of Seacoast residents, candidates must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a health-related field of study. The awards are based primarily on scholastic aptitude and performance, personal achievements, leadership, and community involvement. Since its founding, the Foundation for Seacoast Health has proudly awarded over 658 scholarships to 312 individuals totaling over $2.17 million in support to Seacoast individuals. Ian Barrows, a resident of Greenland, was selected as the recipient of the $3,500 Edwina Foye Award, which is made to a graduate student with the highest academic achievement and personal accomplishments. The award was established in 1986 by colleagues, friends, and family to honor the memory of Edwina Foye, RN, who dedicated 25 years of service to Portsmouth Hospital (1952-1978). Ian will enter his second year at George Washington School of Medicine in the fall. Eileen Macomber, a resident of Kittery Point, ME, was selected as the recipient of the $2,500 Cutter Scholarship Award, which is made to an undergraduate student with the highest academic achievement and personal accomplishments. The award was established by the Foundation for Seacoast Health Board of Trustees in memory of Steven Scott Cutter, son of Nancy L. Cutter, a long-time Foundation employee. Steve, a resident of Greenland, was a 1989 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and 1994 graduate of the University of Connecticut College of Pharmacy. Eileen is currently attending Traip Academy and will begin her first year in a biology/premedicine program at Wellesley Collge in the fall. Emily Koester, a resident of Portsmouth, received a $1,000 scholarship award. Emily will enter her second year in a nursing program at the University of New Hampshire. Selena Lorrey, a resident of Kittery Point, received a $1,000 scholarship award. Selena will enter her second year in a biology program at Bowdoin College. Emily Fregeau, a resident of Portsmouth, received a $1,000 scholarship award. Emily is currently attending Portsmouth High School and will begin her first year in a physician assistant program at Quinnipiac College. Lisa Harning, a resident of Rye, received a $1,000 scholarship award. Lisa will enter her third year in a physician assistant program at the University of New Hampshire
