FOUR ARGUMENTS FOR THE ELIMINATION OF TELEVISION...A MUST READ! I read Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television back in the early 1980s. My television broke soon after I had finished the book, and I have not watched regular TV programming since. Until a couple of years ago I did not own a set that would pick up an external signal; now I have Netflix and a couple of similar products. Basically, I watch movies. And I never watch commercials. Why does all this matter? I believe that television - and the media revolution it launched - separated us from Nature in a way that has been disastrous and has helped lead us to the edge of environmental collapse (Not to mention the role of television as a propaganda device). Edward Abbey urged us to kill our televisions. I agree with the sentiment. But if you insist on owning a TV, at least neuter it as I did. Standard television fare is all too often toxic, stupid, and mind-numbing - and full of mind-control memes from (what is now) the dominant culture. Read this book.
