FOUR ELGIN OFFICERS ARE PARTICIPATING IN THIS EVENT: Detective Heather Robinson, Officer Miriam Uribe, Officer Eric Echevarria and Lieutenant Allen Young .... Third Annual Tuition Knockout! Full day of boxing matches featuring local police officers, firefighters, and political leaders on Nov. 16 at East Aurora High School. Proceeds benefit the National Latino Peace Officers Association Aurora Chapter Scholarship Program. The exhibition matches will take place at 5 p.m. and will culminate an afternoon of boxing that begins at 2 p.m., with a card of 15 amateur bouts featuring boxers of all ages. The amateur matches are sanctioned by the USA Boxing Association and Jesse “The Law” Torres Boxing Club which is run by retired Aurora Police Officer and former professional boxer, Jesse “The Law” Torres. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Stepping into the square ring will be Woodstock Police Officer Dave Sharp vs. Fox River Grove Police Sergeant Eric Waitrovich; Aurora Police Investigator Greg Christoffel vs. Melrose Park Police Sergeant Raul Rodriguez; Aurora Police Detective Lorena Hernandez vs. Elgin Police Detective Heather Robinson; Elgin Police Officer Miriam Uribe vs. Cary Police Officer Tricia Malone; Aurora Alderman Richard Irvin vs. Aurora Township Trustee Juan Reyna; Elgin Police Lieutenant Al Young vs. Elgin Firefighter Steve Brandt; and Elgin Police Officer Eric Echevaria vs. Elgin Firefighter Brandon Ehas. The evening’s main event pits Aurora Police Investigator Erik Swastek against Aurora Firefighter Jeremy Allway. Advance tickets are $15 and $20 at the door. Admission for children ages 6 to 12 is $5. The NLPOA Aurora Chapter Scholarship Program has awarded over $15,000 in scholarships to deserving students since the first Tuition Knockout was held in 2012. The National Latino Peace Officers Association is the largest Latino Law Enforcement Organization in the United States, with local chapters in many cities throughout the country. Its membership includes Chiefs of Police, Sheriffs, Police Officers, Parole Agents, and Federal Officers, all of whom are employed at the local, state, and federal levels. The NLPOA Aurora Chapter is the first local chapter in the State of Illinois. One of the chapter’s goals is to recruit Latinos into the law enforcement profession and to educate the Latino community that law enforcement can be trusted and is a vital resource on which they can depend.
