FOUR exciting winter events are coming up! First, on Feb. 5th, our Archivist, Carolyn Ravenscroft is participating in a breakfast at the Senior Center. She has a collection of Duxbury house photographs from the 1920s-1960s that need identifying! Bring your memories and knowledge to the table and help us learn more about this collection. See website for details. Second, on Feb. 7th, our Historic Clothing Committee is offering a free Gallery talk at the Duxbury Library, on the newest installation in the exhibit case on the 2nd floor: a 1750s silk petticoat. This is the earliest clothing example in our collection and worth taking a look! The petticoat is the first in a rotating exhibit of clothing examples entitled Threads of Duxburys Past. New clothing examples will be offered in chronological order, every two months. A free gallery talk will accompany each new exhibit. See our website for more details. Third, our very first book-and-collections club begins on Feb. 8. The first selection, Benito Cereno by Herman Melville is a fictionalized account of the adventures of Duxburys own ship captain Amasa Delano. Come join in a lively book discussion and see real objects from the Societys collection, associated with the narrative. Reservations required. Also - a heads up! - on March 29th, author Greg Grandin will visit to discuss his new book The Empire of Necessity. This book is fast becoming a best seller, and it also features Duxburys Amasa Delano. Our archivist, Carolyn Ravenscroft, helped in the research and is acknowledged in the book!
