FOX News Alert (2:19 P.M. today) - "Two pilots were sleeping at the same time." Reminds me of a similar story told my dad told from WWII. His Air Group (four C-47 transport squadrons) was the primary source of supplies for the Australians who were fighting the Japanese in the mountains of New Guinea. From their base to the drop zone and back was about a 14 hr flight. On occasion, one of the pilots would leave the cockpit and take a nap. My dad would then sit in the empty seat and chat with the remaining pilot. On occasion, he would be given the controls and given instructions on flying the plane. After a number of these flights, he was at the controls when the co-pilot decided he would take a nap as well. Not a problem - clear day, no Japanese fighters in the area. That is, until they began to near the base and both pilots were still asleep - and landing a C-47 was an entirely different matter. To awaken them, he began to rock the plane back and forth. Eventually, he flipped the crew chief on to the floor who came up front to see what was going on. Finally, he was relieved.
