FOX dropped the ball a few times with their adaptions. Daredevil wasnt terrible but Elektra killed the franchise. The first 2 FF franchises were mediocre and the X franchise was almost ruined by the poor decision making on Last Stand. There are a lot of what ifs in life. Had Tom Cruise and John Woo been more efficient ad MI:2 finishes on time then Wolverine is Dougray Scott. Given Scotts lack of charisma over his career my guess is the X franchise fails without Jackmans force of nature performances as Wolverine. Jim Caviziel was meant to be Cyclops but had to choose due to scheduling conflicts. He chose Frequency which didnt make a lot of money. Had he chose Cyclops then I think that romantic love triangle works better and his star rises. Last Stand becomes much closer to the Phoenix storyline in the books and is a much better film as a result. Fox doesnt choose Tim Story and instead chooses almost anyone else to direct the FF. The Fantastic Four is a much better film with Alba and the others giving much more convincing performances and the film makes 100 million more worldwide. They make a much better sequel again with a better director and we get a solid run of FF films. They create a coherent script for Elektra that goes dark rather than ridiculous. It makes a bit more money than the guff did. FOX still doesnt go forward but doesnt let the rights lapse and relaunches DD. They choose to go cheaper to allow them to go darker and grittier with a harder edged rating and make a nice profit. Whlst not blockbusters the DD franchise is a solit earner in low season for FOX. There are lots of different what ifs out there. In the end they are only that though. Guesses as to what may have happened.
