FPPL Match Highlights: AC Fate vs Liverland 31st May, 2014 By Lee Tae Bok, Player (AC Fate) It was overcast weather in various parts of Singapore, but the weather cleared up and paved the way for an intriguing encounter between new league entrants, Liverland United, and defending champions, AC Fate, who had been on a luckless 2-game losing streak prior to the match. It was also to be the FIRST and LAST time the full set of Battle Pack Warriors of AC Fate were to be on one pitch at the same time - due to a Gerrard-like banana slip by the ever-dependent Hilmann. The match kicked off with high intensity as AC Fate set off with a point (3 points actually) to prove following a poor run of form with a barrage of attacks on Liverlands goal. Winger, Terence Lau, was looking inspired again, as his clever wing-play and use of the ball brought about the bulk of Fates chances. Nevertheless, a combination of poor finishing, and determined defending from Liverland saw the first half come to a goalless end. The second half seemed to have plateaued, until it was brought to life by Liverlands well-taken goal after some hesitant Fate defending. Fates first 3 points were put into further jeopardy, when custodian Bobos went down clutching his shin after a 50-50 challenge. But just as how Bobos rose up from his injury, the wounded AC Fate was to respond with a late 2-goal surge to ensure that they remained in the title hunt. Resident Durian-picker, Terence Lau, was certainly smelling the low-hanging fruits after great work down the wings from Goo saw him whip in a cross from the by-line that left the goalkeeper and defence fumbling. Equipped with his cotton gloves and knife, Terence knocked, smelt and picked the right Durian by tapping the equalizing goal in. AC Fate never looked back from there. The equalizer galvanized Fate forward with a whole assortment of attacks in search of the winner - and eventually Fates first win of the season. The inevitable then happened in the final 10 minutes of the match when a cross (or clearance? shall we open a Facebook poll? haha!) from Kevin found its way past the resilient Liverland defence to (you guessed it!) D24-specialist Terence Lau who dispatched a clever flick over the on-rushing goalkeeper to effectively wrap up the 3 points for Fate. It was scenes of hysteria at Commonwealth Stadium as there were reported Champions League Finals-like scenes of Fate players on their knees as AC Fate clinched their first 3 points of the season. AC Fate will be looking to build on the 3 points, and hope to replicate a title-winning run of last season - after a similar faltering start to the season. Credits to the opponents too, for putting in a combative performance!
