FQ: Hi ladies. So I had a question about epidurals. Im due any day now with baby #4. My last 3 pregnancies I had literally all natural with absolutely no pain meds. Ive had never gotten an epidural before because for one its kinda scary the thought of getting a shot in your back, and two because I have spinal bifida so I already have chronic back pain and Ive heard getting an epidural can cause back pains so I really dont want to deal with more back pain that I already do. Im getting my tubes tied after I have my baby so my doctor was talking to me about the process and what to expect. I didnt know that when getting a tubal they give you an epidural. I asked if there was any other options because I really didnt want an epidural for any reason. She told me they dont want to put patients to sleep while doing a tubal due to the risks so there really was no other option. So if I have no other choice but to get an epidural when I will be getting my tubal done then I figured why not get it while Im in labor and in pain. My question about the whole thing is...what is it like getting an epidural. Can you feel when they stick the needle in your spine and does it hurt? (I doubt it would hurt worse than labor pains but the whole thought of it is pretty scary to me) I guess I would kinda just like to know what to expect in more detail than what your doctor tells you about epidurals.
