FQ: Im 29 years old FTM and 20 weeks pregnant with a boy and yesterday I received a call from a nurse at my obgyns office. She said the state sent out the results of my 2nd trimeseter screening and it showed we are at risk for SLOS (Smith-Lemli-Opits Syndrome) which is a defect where the baby doesnt make cholesterol. If the baby makes it through pregnancy he will be mentally retarded and have loads of complications. So today we went to have an ultrasound done and to speak with the genetic counselor. She said my chances are 1 in 120. But the reason the state said I was at risk was my protein levels are supposed to be at 1.0 and they are at .08. Physically theres nothing wrong with the baby hes great and theres no other issues. They said the only way to know for sure is an amniocentesis which we dont feel comfortable with due to the risks and it wouldnt change anything we wont terminate the pregnancy. Has anyone else have a similar issue. Please help Thank you.~12
