FRACK QUAKES If fracking operations didn’t already seem - TopicsExpress

FRACK QUAKES If fracking operations didn’t already seem absurdly dangerous and under-regulated, what with all the air pollution, drinking water contamination and explosions, we can now add another bullet point to the list of anxiety-provoking consequences. Earthquakes. Yes, fracking operations can cause the ground to shake violently like the doomsday device of a deranged scientist from an old movie. A new study has confirmed that the injection of fracking wastewater in Ohio caused a magnitude 5.0 earthquake, which, in the worst domino effect ever, may have triggered an even larger, magnitude 5.7 quake — the likes of which have been increasing in the central and eastern U.S. since 2001, just as fracking took off. What a coincidence. How much more evidence do we need that unregulated fracking is a really bad idea? Does the sky need to start raining fire in proximity? Swarms of locusts? Surely wherever the line of too much collateral damage is drawn, we are far over it. More at: livescience/43953-wastewater-injection-earthquake-triggering.html
