FRAMING: “CELEBRITY” A famous person, especially in entertainment or sport, it is a state of being well known: his prestige and celebrity grew. This word is a blessing and a curse, the better side of it, is the amount of influence you can have on society in a positive way. The bad side is deprived privacy, people want know and like to think they know everything about a celebrity. Public figures are these celebrities who people honour and love. The word celebrity in its Latin form celebrita, celeber, celebr- means ‘frequented or honoured’. Its origin from Middle English (in the sense ‘solemn ceremony’): from Old French celebrite. Now straight to the core of things ☺… Some elements are associated with being a celebrity, such as appearing on the cover of Time, being spoofed in Mad, having a wax statue in Madame Tussauds, or receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. If one has to name a famous boxer, they are more likely to name Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson, since their fame expanded beyond the sport itself. Pablo Picassos style and name are known even to people who are not interested in art; likewise many know that Harry Houdini was an illusionist, Tiger Woods a golfer, Bill Gates an entrepreneur, Albert Einstein a scientist; Mozart and Beethoven classical composers; Luciano Pavarotti an opera singer. Cultures and regions with a significant population may have their own independent celebrity systems, with distinct hierarchies. For example, Regional radio personalities, newscasters, politicians or community leaders may be local or regional celebrities. Hope you learnt something ☺… thank you for reading Warm Regards, Bethanie
