***FRAUD ALERTS*****I know that Facebook is not a blog format (although I’m seriously considering starting one), but I wanted to let my friends know about two different, rather ingenious (give credit where credit is due) fraud schemes circulating lately. The first seems to be targeted at LLCs established in Mississippi (don’t know if they are pulling it off in other states, but don’t doubt it). LLCs are receiving a rather official looking legal size form in the mail entitled 2014 Annual Minutes Form. It’s an informational form from a company addressed from Flowood, MS that’s asking for corporate information along with a $125 payment. This form is not issued by a governmental agency (it even says so in the fine print). This is some random company’s way to accumulate information and money. This was called to my attention by one of my more business-minded (with a healthy dose of cynicism) friends who had the wherewithal to question its validity. It actually took me a few minutes to realize it wasn’t an official document and I do this crap for a living. I shudder to think of those companies who simply are trying to comply with all the state questionnaires and forms filling this form out and sending in the $125 to some random company. Second, those devilish adware scams! You gotta give it to ‘em. Now what they are doing is hitting you with an adware virus (that bogs your computer down and has a million pop-ups) and then you get a message telling you that you must call “Microsoft” company to help get the virus removed. They get you to allow them to access your computer remotely and then tell you that you have all kinds of problems with your computer and for a small nominal fee of around $180 they will fix it for you. Okay, I call bulls**t. Two of my friends brought this to my attention and brought their computers to me and all it took was a really good uninstall program and 15 minutes to wipe the adware “virus” off their computer. Norton or MacAfee or one of those stupid “scan your computer” software programs (which I highly suspect contain more adware viruses so you’ll upgrade their product) are not worth the money you would spend. I have found that REVO UNINSTALLER is a legit company and works beautifully. You can get a free download trial version and call me if you need help – I’ll walk you through it. Guys please remember that most viruses going around today are adware and when your computer starts acting up, don’t ditch it or pay outrageous amounts to fix it. Now back to regular programming……
