FREE GIFT GOD’S FREE GIFT FOR YOU! WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE BORN AGAIN? By Walter Andrewson bibleprophecyendtimes/ The Bible tells us in Genesis, in the beginning God created Heaven and earth, and on the sixth day God created man and called him Adam and placed him in the Garden of Eden. Adam needed a helpmate, so God created woman from the rib of man. God communicated with them in the garden. He told them they could eat from the fruits of the garden, but do not eat from the tree of good and evil or touch it lest you die. (God was indicating here that they would die a spiritual death for being disobedient because sin separates man from God because of the disobedience.) The serpent told Eve she would not surely die. Eve was deceived by the serpent thinking that she would not die physically and so she gave of the fruit to Adam and he sinned willfully by eating of the fruit which Eve placed before him. They felt guilty afterwards and hid from God. Because of the sin they were separated from God and since Adam, man has need to be redeemed to get back into fellowship with God. God created man with a body, soul and spirit. When Adam sinned he hid from God and was not able to communicate with God because sin separated him from God. (He died spiritually because of the sin.) The spirit part of man died and sin was passed to all men because of Adam’s sin, and God had to come up with a plan to renew the spirit in man. In the Old Testament man’s sin was covered by the sacrifice and shedding of the blood of animals. In the New Testament God provided His Son, Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, without sin, the perfect Lamb of God, to redeem man by the shedding of His blood on the cross. Since the time of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, man can be redeemed to God by asking him to forgive our sins and by accepting Christ’s finished work of redemption upon the cross. We must also ask him to come into our hearts, thus renewing the Holy Spirit in man and being able to communicate with God through Christ’s provision. God gave man a free will. He can accept or reject His provision. What then does it mean to be born again? Christ describes it in John 3:3-8 where he says, “Except a man be born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” He continues on by saying, “Except a man be born of water and the spirit he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit is spirit.” He indicates here that there is a natural birth and a spiritual birth. We are born into this world by a natural birth, but we cannot enter the Kingdom of God until we have a spiritual birth. It is God’s desire to have fellowship with man, but since the time of Adam, sin separates us from God. We gain access to Him through Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” He is our advocate with the Father. Jesus is now sitting at the right hand of God making intercession for us. Since God is a spirit, our spirit is renewed through spiritual birth and we can have a direct relationship through Christ and the Holy Spirit which abides in us. When we accept Christ the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us and we now have a personal relationship with Christ through the indwelling Holy Spirit and our name is written down in The Lamb’s Book of Life. It is then that we enter into God’s Kingdom. Christ promises to return and take us to the Father’s house in John 14:3, to dwell with Him for Eternity. JESUS DIED FOR YOU!
