FREE SKYWARN SPOTTER CLASS 9/23/14 7-9 PM The Dekalb County Emergency Management Agency in conjunction with the National Weather Service have come together to offer the SKYWARN® storm spotter class. This Class is free of charge to all persons. SKYWARN® storm spotters are a valuable part of the first line of defense in the threat of severe weather. Storm spotters are trained to identify and report weather conditions during severe weather. This effort provides real on the ground data that forecasters can use to issue watches and warnings for local communities faster, and more efficiently. Persons encouraged to attend this training include amateur radio operators, law enforcement, fire department personnel, first responders, emergency dispatchers, emergency medical workers, emergency management personnel, public utility workers, private citizens, individuals affiliated with hospitals, teachers and administrators for schools and colleges, church groups and volunteer organizations, nursing home and elderly care administrators and staff. This is the rescheduled class from 2013 that was cancelled due to the federal furlough.
