FREE Strings Club music workshop and scavenger hunts! If you have children aged 4-11 years old and you are flagging at the start of the 5th week of the summer holidays (!) you might like to know that a new summer camp gets under way today in Harborne run by The Strings Club. There are still places available and your children can go for 1 day or all week. Please call Amy on 0779933 2562 or email [email protected] to confirm a place. On Wednesday afternoon this week, The Strings Club are offering a FREE Carnival of the Animals music workshop. Exploring the music of Messiaen and Saint Saens, this workshop will explore how composers write music that creates the sound of an animal. This is on Wednesday 20th August at Harborne Primary School, Birmingham, B17 9LU from 1.15pm - 3.15pm. Again, you need to book a place with Amy. Emma Perry on the Network has come up with a couple of great suggestions too - thanks Emma - heres what Emma says:- I have seen on Pinterest a scavenger hunt you can make. Its can be for indoors or outdoors and you can make up anything on the list. For example find a leaf, twig, something smooth, something shiny, a toothbrush, a red pencil, lego brick, toy car, hairbrush etc etc. Also at Birmingham council swimming pools with a leisure card you can swim for free 9am- midday Monday - Friday. If you need to make the scavenger hunt harder for older children, why not give them a small empty match box each and challenge them to see how many items they can squeeze inside - e.g. a blade of grass, a petal, a pebble. You can make it harder still by doing it to the clock or saying items have to be a certain colour. To make this activity last longer, everyone can paint/decorate their matchboxes before or after the scavenger hunt. Happy scavenging and music making!
