FREE public lecture by Internationally Acclaimed Visiting Scholar, Professor Dame Celia Hoyles (OBE). School mathematics: potential, policy and practice. Is mathematics important, even vital, for an individual and for society? In this public lecture, Professor Dame Hoyles (OBE) will discuss the differing points of view about mathematics, and will argue that mathematics is indeed important but only if learners actually engage with the subject and do so in ways that are rigorous. Professor Dame Hoyles (OBE) will propose the one way to achieve both rigour and broader access to mathematics, while also illustrating her argument with examples from research and practice.
