FREEDOM OF SPEECH NEVER DID EXIST IN ANY COUNTRY Freedom of speech must be matched with the Tolerance of dissent. These two values should grow in tandem. Cultivating one while neglecting the other would cause an imbalance that will destroy society. A step deeper you will realize that there is never a country with freedom of speech/expression. Freedom of speech is merely a reflection of Tolerance of dissent. The more tolerating a society is towards dissent, the higher the freedom of speech it attains. Whilst responsible practices of freedom of speech would slowly increase the tolerance level towards dissents, any attempt to move faster than what the state of balance allows, would be disastrous. Why the rush? It will only go backwards. Western countries took long enough to cultivate their tolerance towards dissent to achieve what they have today as reflected by their high level of freedom of speech. We are still young and yet we expect an unrealistic leap jump! Look at the disaster we have created. Its like looking at your neighbours 23 years old kid completing his degree in law with a first class, and then expect your 9 years old to have his law degree with first class too. Do you agree?
