FRENCH GUIANA In Brazil, for reasons that Im still trying to - TopicsExpress

FRENCH GUIANA In Brazil, for reasons that Im still trying to understand, colonialism is mentioned with indulgence and whitewashing. Brazil suffered for more than 300 years, with the Portuguese colonialism, but today, that time - and its wounds - are virtually forgotten. Perhaps for the independence have occurred long ago - September 1822 - does not exist in Brazil, any concern to denouncing colonialism. To the north of Brazil, remains a residue of one of the worst models of colonialism in History: French Guiana. The territory which, like the other French colonies, was the target of genocide and slave exploitation, and later became known for hosting the Devils Island, continues to be a living reminder of the great aberration that was colonialism. France, known by the values of freedom, equality and fraternity, never applied those principles in their colonies from overseas. The anti-colonial wars involving France were the most bloody and painful in History! Countries like Vietnam, had to go through a period of over 40 years of suffering because of the radicalism of the French to abandon their colonies. And today, very close, we Brazilians quietly tolerate the existence of this anomaly and outdated residue of devilish French colonialism!
