FRIDAY, 1/2/15 POETRY. Psalm 4:5 “Secret Recipe?” (By Barry) WORSHIP: He’s Alive! https://youtube/watch?v=bWNHsmpZ0pw SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Psa&c=4&t=NLT#s=482005 5 Offer sacrifices in the right spirit, and trust the LORD. Do you like to eat? Do you like to cook? When I cook, I can get REALLY creative. I have come up with some amazing meals over the years. The problem? I can’t usually do it the second time. Do you know why? Because I don’t usually follow a recipe. I get so carried away with trying to come up with the perfect taste, I don’t write it down, and I forget exactly how much of each ingredient I use. The result the next time I try to cook the same meal? Disaster. In today’s verse, I see a bit of a “recipe” we can use as we seek to walk with God. There are three crucial “ingredients” that are mentioned. Can you see them? —1. Sacrifice. If we truly want to grow as Christians, we are going to have to give up things. It’s as simple as that. We might have to give up time, or friends, or popularity, but sooner or later (probably sooner!), if you are serious, really serious about a goal, you are going to have to give up something in order to achieve it. —2. Right Attitude. I can sacrifice all day long, but if my spirit or attitude is negative, I am wasting my time. My state of mind, and my motive, are very, very important. —3. Trust. Life can really disappoint us. It’s amazing just how often this can happen. Sometime, no matter how much I sacrifice, and how much I fight to keep a great attitude, things STILL stink-at least, on the surface. This is where my TRUST comes in. What do you think of this “recipe”? Does it make sense to you? Which “ingredient” is the toughest one for you? Why? Do you have people in your life who seem to be living by this “recipe”? What can you learn from them (and from those who aren’t)? PRAYER:
