FRIDAY, 1/9/15 POETRY. Psalm 4:6-8 “God and God Alone” (By Barry) WORSHIP: Have you heard this one? It is NOT new, but it totally captures the theme of today’s verses: https://youtube/watch?v=qER86goQzwQ SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Psa&c=4&t=NLT#s=482006 6 Many people say, “Who will show us better times?” Let your face smile on us, LORD. 7 You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. 8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. You have looked for it, haven’t you? You have tried to find joy, and tried to find satisfaction. Maybe in a job. Maybe in an experience. Maybe even in a person (we are really good at that mistake!). But the writer of Psalm 4 had discovered something. God, and God alone, is the secret to joy, and satisfaction, and peace. We cannot find those things anywhere (or in anyone) else. THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS: —1. What are some things (or people) you have mistakenly chosen to somehow satisfy you? —2. Isn’t God’s grace amazing? Don’t you think, if YOU were God, you would have gotten tired of our unfaithfulness a LONG time ago? —3. Here is a tough question: Can you REALLY agree with the words that are in today’s Psalm? I mean, really? Is it God, and God alone, for you, OR do you turn to God AFTER you have tried everything else? PRAYER:
