FRIDAY BLOG: Someone asked me the other day.What does it mean to be in the Spirit? I am sure there a lot of people who have this same question but dont want to ask it. To begin with, lets just remind everyone that different denominations have different concepts about the Holy Spirit and how He interacts with us as children of God. Exploring those differences and the reasons for those differences is way over my pay grade. But, having had experiences and witnessed experiences, I can relate what I know. First of all, in my case, when I focus on the Lord, particularly when I am alone or involved in worship, the Spirit stirs my heart. When He does, I have to praise the Lord and my spirit is experiencing peace and joy. It is not something you can force or cause to happen directly. I believe that it happens when you empty yourself of yourself; focus your heart, mind and body on praising the Lord and the Holy Spirit will step in and help you do just that. You may raise your hands, praise the Lord, out loud, and perhaps even say a word or two that you dont understand. Dont let any of this scare you, its the Holy Spirit and this is what I mean when I talk about being in the Spirit. But, you dont have to take my word for it , try it and see what happens. Clear your mind, focus on the Lord and just begin praising Him with all your heart and mind, but let me warn you, it may cause you to shout, in church or even in your car, it may cause you to dance around a bit, but mostly it is going to richly bless you and that is what God intends.
