In the past two decades, Singer/Actor/Songwriter Dawn Tyler Watson has earned her place among Canada’s Blues elite. Born in England and raised in Ontario, after earning her BFA in Jazz Studies and Theatre from Concordia University, she adopted Quebec as her home and was quickly dubbed “Montreal’s Queen of the Blues.” (Montreal Gazette) An accomplished and dynamic performer, Watson’s fiery stage presence has earned her national and international recognition. She’s a multiple nominee of the prestigious Canadian Maple Blues Award, twice earning herself the title of Female Vocalist of the Year (2005 & 2007). As well, she’s a six-time consecutive winner of the Quebec Lys Blues Award (2004-2009) in the same category. Other achievements include a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination (2008); a Screaming Jay Hawkins Award for live performance (France 2003); and a Trophées France Blues (2004) for female International Artist of the Year. She has shared the stage with an array of premiere Jazz & Blues artists, including Oliver Jones, Jeff Healy, Koko Taylor, Cyndi Lauper; and has opened for the likes of, Dr. Maya Angelou, Colin James, and Mavis Staples.
