FRIDAY, July 25 Saint James the Apostle Matthew 20:23. You - TopicsExpress

FRIDAY, July 25 Saint James the Apostle Matthew 20:23. You will indeed drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left, this is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father. Mrs. Zebedee comes across as the original helicopter parent, hovering over her darling boys who seem here to be sniveling brats relying on such intervention. One cannot blame the other disciples for resenting this power grab. But look what happens. After the privilege of being in the inner circle of disciples, especially close to Jesus, James is the first apostle to be martyred. Those who are at Jesus’ right and left hand as he enters into his kingdom are not the inner circle but the thieves on the crosses next to him. Honor in the kingdom of God does not always look like honor elsewhere. Mrs. Zebedee and her boys had one idea of what it might mean to enjoy Jesus’ favor. God had something quite different in mind. What do we look for from Jesus? What else might God have in mind? PRAY for the Diocese of Ekiti Oke (Ondo, Nigeria) Today the Church remembers Saint James the Apostle. From ForwardMovement.org
