FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2013 -2 Chronicles 32:1-33 biblegateway/passage/?search=2Ch+32:1-33&version=ESV 2 Chronicles 32 “Be strong and courageous” (v.7). Those are familiar words. Moses said this to Israel. Moses said this to Joshua. God said this to Joshua. Israel said this to Joshua. Joshua said this to the people. David said this to Solomon. Now this is the last time these words are recorded like this as Hezekiah spoke these words to his military officers while under siege by the vast army of the Assyrians. What was the basis of their courage? It was always God’s promised presence and the reward of success. Hezekiah expressed it this way, “there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles” (vs. 7-8). Of course God did fight for them. The army of Judah did not need to release a single arrow. 185,000 Assyrians died by the Angel of the LORD that night while He passed over Jerusalem. Having just experienced the Passover celebration, Hezekiah witnessed it first hand as the LORD lifted the siege and freed His people. Read these words again, “Be strong and courageous”.
