FRIEND our site if you enjoy these airborne items/photos. This is the General William C. Lee Father of the American Airborne Memorial Coin. Represented on one side is Major General Lee and the other side shows the Lee Airborne Museum with the insignia of the 82nd Ab Div and the 101st Ab Div. The center shield is that of Dunn, N.C. and shows the All American City Award that Dunn was awarded in 1989 and 2013. William C. Lee was born and raised in Dunn. Lee worked 18-20 hour days to create, establish, organize, train Americas first U.S. Army Airborne. In 1944 he suffered a series of heart attacks, forcing him to retire. Major General Lee died in 1948 at 53 years old at his home in Dunn. Item from the General William C. Lee Airborne Museum collection. Dunn, N.C. I-95 take exit 73.
