FRIENDS: If you have heard a story about an act of violence that is supposed to occur tomorrow (Weds), at Westside Jr High, Walker Freshman High or any other school in the area, the story is absolutely false. Someone apparently thinks its funny to attempt to scare students about a Purge (like the movie) and have even said that a female student was arrested last week at Westside for having a gun, a knife and a list of people who were to be victims of violence. Again, this isnt true. To illustrate this point, one of the instagram posts uses a headline discussing the expulsion of a 12 year old girl for having a handgun at school. The headline was actually taken from a news story from August, 2006. Rest assured that if we were aware of any credible threat at any school, we would make parents immediately aware of that threat and take all reasonable precautions. If we were to make an arrest in connection with this matter, it would be the arrest of whoever is spreading this rumor on charges of terrorizing. If you receive word of this rumor, please do not pass it on and please urge your children to do likewise. In this era of social media, it is next to impossible to put an end to rumors like this, but we are going to try. If there were a credible threat and risk, we would tell you. We are telling you that there is no such credible risk or threat. Thank you!
