FROM A FRIEND: FREEDOM In 1887 a Scottish history professor named Alexander Tyler wrote in an Edinburgh College paper, about the fall of the Athenian Republic. He stated, “Democracy is and will always be temporary in nature. A Democracy will continue to exist as a form of government until such time as when the voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.” U.S. Senator, Henry Cabot lodge (R) of Massachusetts, made a similar statement decades ago, about our country. “The danger will come when the people feel they have a right, as a citizen, to the public coffers.” All Democracies seem to all go through the same pattern of existence. (1) Bondage. (2) Spiritual Strength. (3) Abundance. (4) Complacency. (5) Apathy. (6) last but not least, a return to Bondage. The life expectancy of a Democracy is 200 years. Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline School of Law and others have stated, “With 40% of our citizens on some sort of Dependent Government Welfare, so how long do we have left?” If you’re looking to Washington, that is becoming a waste of your time. Facing reality doesn’t work their. They are career Politicians who don’t have the will to do anything logical or fiscally responsible. They know the people in their state will support the status qua. This is especially true if they can frame the campaign dialog with a key side tracking issue that doesn’t deal with any real problem. These politicians are terrified, because they can not say, “I’m responsible for screwing everything up. But re-elect me anyway and I promise to do better next time.” And people wonder why I’m for term limits. Marx once wrote that Christianity is the narcotic of the people. In essence it means that people concern themselves with God and the Church rather than their own selfish self interest. Because religion, especially Christian religion is now under attack daily, politically as well as in the media, the left has to replace religion in the public mind. The new God of the political left is Obama and the Environment. To get your mind occupied and away for the Church we also have 24 hour TV Sports and celebrity voyeurism. You the electorate are definitely not paying attention to what’s happening in Washington. What will it take to grab your attention and realize something is definitely wrong with your priorities? Do you think we have reached past # (4) and into # (5) yet? How will you vote and make those decisions that may have long lasting consequences to your family and the nation? How long do you think we have as a people? Questions always questions, embarrassing isn’t it.
