FROM A FRIEND!! So SAD! I was driving into town earlier this evening when the person i was with pointed out an empty house which had a sign of some sort taped to the hall door, they told me that nobody had lived there for a very long time, we decided to pull in to see what the sign was, sure enough, there in black and white was a notice from the Tullamore court to attend before the county registrar in March this year, the case being brought by KBC for possesion...signed by Joynt & Crawford Solicitors,8 Anglesea St dublin 2. To say I felt sick to my stomach would be an understatement, I felt weak and so so sad for the poor family who lived there, I could see from the outside that it was indeed a family home and that they had a young daughter, (there were pink little girly curtains on the bedroom window) I could see also that the family had taken great pride in their home, it was left empty but spotless, the decor inside from what i could see was lovingly and tastefully done, I imagined a young couple filled with hope and dreams of a bright future in their dream home painting and papering, using the light from the windows to brighten the muted colours they chose adding warmth and welcoming to their space. Inside the hallway lay hundreds of unopened untouched mail, just lying there where it fell after the postman had dropped it in, most likely that pile of mail contained numerous threatening letters from solicitors etc, quite possibly demands for money from other sources too, I could almost feel the despair they felt lingering in the air of their now overgrown garden, a garden which at one time was a play area for their children, a driveway they would have kept clear now overgrown with weeds whose seeds had blown in months ago, the driveway they would have used the very first time they came to see their future home when everything must have seemed so exciting, that same driveway they would have used to pack up whatever vehicles they used to move their possessions before the sheriff came to turf them out, I wondered if their tears fell where I stood leaving a small piece of them behind. I thought about how we could have helped them if they knew we existed, if they knew that there were people who cared, people from, Anti-Eviction Ireland, Anti Eviction Taskforce, Eviction Alert, The Hub and many others, I wondered if anyone came to help or if they faced this horror alone and my heart weighed down like stone. I wonder where they are now, I wonder what will become of their once dream home, will it lie untouched and unloved until it rots into the earth while the family who loved it face being homeless.
