FROM: Colleen LaDina Irene Cox Aloha! Im new to the group, and have a question...a but of background info first though-I am an Aspie- and I have always struggled with the idea of normal I have a daughter who is 13, also an Aspie. My question is this: how do I determine if my daughter is just being a teenager or if she needs some type of intervention? She is increasingly pessimistic, rude, mean, sarcastic, hurtful, withdrawn and difficult to communicate with. She has always struggled in social situations and been awkward-but her negativity and cynicism are steadily becoming so difficult to deal with-especially when I myself am struggling too and I see no way to help or change her attitude. Weve tried therapy, moved her to homeschooling because we thought that she was acting out due to bullying at school, we started her on oral contraceptives to moderate hormonal influences...Im really not a fan of medications that alter neuro-receptors-but her father and I are at the end of our wits. Anyone else dealing with this or have suggestions? I dont remember being this way as a teen myself. Mahalo for any help you can offer.
