FROM: Liz Hughes Oct 19th, 9:14am **IS THERE ANYONE HERE WHO WAS ADOPTED, FOSTERED OR IN CARE, OR WHO HAS A CHILD WHO WAS? ** I need to collect stories, good or bad, to build up a clearer picture of the experiences of people on the spectrum who have been taken into care, fostering or adoption, or who are a parent of a child who was. (Even if it was 50 years ago). PLEASE find 5 minutes or less to complete this survey, ANONYMOUSLY. Thanks!! freeonlinesurveys/s.asp?sid=wgmlcig6ojg5y82549797 (I am hoping to undertake research in this area, following my PG Cert in Aspergers, the under-diagnosis and support of women on the spectrum, and autism policy and practice. Being adopted myself, with a child with autism, and many traits in the family, the thought occurred to me, and I started to notice many references to adoption in some of the sites Interact with. It struck me that sometimes family problems could partly arise from the vulnerabilities and sometimes behavioural issues associated with autism, and that as often females remain undiagnosed, or miss-diagnosed for too long, opportunities for support by professionals with good understanding of autism could be missed, until it was too late. There seems to be very little discussion of such a possibility in the literature, so I wanted to undertake some research of my own, with some guidance from my former tutor. I am not saying there is a link, rather trying to research whether there might be. If it was found to be so, then provision of the right support from professionals with good knowledge of autism could potentially save some families from being broken up unnecessarily, with the attendant emotional/psychological effects on parent and child)
