FROM: SUNDAY’S OPEN Q & A Can you please explain Revelation 11:13? Revelation 11:13 (KJV) 13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. ANSWER The thing that helps us in understanding this verse is the verse that comes after it: Revelation 11:14 The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly. And just as the first 4 trumpets sounded judgment on the third part to indicate Gods wrath beginning on the churches (Revelation 8:7-12), and these first 4 trumpets sounded simultaneously; likewise, the last 3 trumpets (or three woes) also sound simultaneously. This means that the information found in Revelation 11:13 is related to the 2nd woe and relates to Judgment Day which began on May 21, 2011. Does the Bible speak of a great earthquake occurring on that day? Yes. Thats one of the reasons why we incorrectly assumed there would be a literal earthquake. But instead it was a spiritual earthquake. The reference to the tenth part of the city falling, and the slaying of the 7000 are both references that tie in with the churches. On May 21, 2011, all those within the congregations were as it were slain. They had previously been warned about the separation of wheat and tares; but on that day God collected the entire bundle of tares which were found in all churches of the world and cast them into the spiritual fire now lit in His anger. This slew them in a way that the judgment on the churches could not.
