FROM: SUNDAY’S OPEN Q & A I would like to compare Exodus - TopicsExpress

FROM: SUNDAY’S OPEN Q & A I would like to compare Exodus 12:3, Joshua 4:19, and Ezekiel 40:1 my question is. Is Ezekiel 40:1 giving the same time reference as the first 2 verses? And if so are they related to each other by the use of the time references given. Exodus 12:2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house Joshua 4:19 And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho. Ezekiel 40:1 In the five and twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in the selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither. ANSWER We can know that the 25th year of their captivity was the year 573 BC. The dating of their captivity was keyed to king Jehoiachins captivity. Ezekiel 1:1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. 2 In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachins captivity, Jehoiachin went into captivity in 598 BC. So the 25th year was 573 BC. And we also know that Jerusalem was smitten in 587 BC. 14 years after its being smitten would also fall on 573 BC. It could be the first month since Ezekiel 40:1 says its the beginning of the year. But I would want to check that out more thoroughly since the 7th Hebrew month is sometimes called the end of the year.
